Medical Clinic
Prior to 2018, this village had no access to fresh water. In fact, their water supply was in a marsh that was used in agriculture, largely for livestock grazing. The stream that was present in the marsh was often stagnant and at most was no deeper than 6 inches. The presence of livestock feces, along with parasites and other water-born pathogens made the health situation in this village an emergency. The current life expectancy is on average 40-45 years of age.
However, through fundraising efforts in the summer of 2018, the village was able to drill a well and now has access to fresh water. Now that a major cause of the health problems has been fixed, what still remains is the treatment of all of the diseases, pathogens and other various illnesses that are present in the community, some of which were caused by the lack of fresh water. A medical clinic has been constructed in the village and what they are in need of now is medical supplies and funds to help keep the clinic open. Some of the biggest health problems that the people of Kagavu face are Jiggers, Malnutrition, Infections and Malaria.
